Hello Everyone!

Welcome back from Intercession Break! As a reminder, the Concert Band has an upcoming performance this week. They have an awesome opportunity to perform with the Maine West Marching Warriors!!! All students are expected to be in attendance. This is an incredible chance for 7th and 8th graders to get a glimpse of the fun of marching band.

The rehearsal will take place this Thursday, October 13th from 6:15pm-7:30pm at the Maine West Stadium.

The performance will take place this Friday, October 14th at 6:30pm. All students should plan to be dropped off and picked up at the North side of the stadium near the fence.

Congratulations to all of the performers last night and this morning! All performers worked very hard this quarter and produced a well received performance!! Ms. Tyus and I are very proud! Thank you again to all of the parent volunteers!!

Quick reminders as we head towards intercession:

The next performance by the Concert Band will take place on October 13th and 14th at Maine West. This is the D62 Marching Band Night and all Concert Band students are expected to attend. Attached, you will find the order form. ICS students only have to purchase the T-shirt. If you already have a t-shirt, please just return the form by next Friday, September 23rd.

The next concert at ICS will be on November 17th. This concert is for all Intermediate and Beginning Band/Orchestra students! It will be a lot of fun!

Good Morning Everyone!

Our Annual Pops Concert will take place this Thursday, September 15th. The dinner will be served at 6:00pm and the concert will begin promptly at 7:02pm. Thank you to all of the parents and family members that have requested to volunteer! That is a huge help! You will receive an email regarding your responsibilities for the evening.

Hello All!

Reminder!! After-school beginning band and orchestra rehearsal will take place this Wednesday from 2:45-4:00pm! I look forward to working with all beginners as they become more comfortable with their instruments!

Pops Concert!!! This year the Pop’s Concert will take place on Thursday, September 15th. The dinner will begin at 6pm and the concert will begin at 7pm. The Concert Band, Concert Orchestra, and Middle School Chorus will perform at this concert. Tickets and reservations for the dinner will be in this week’s newsletter and Friday Folders.

FYI – Jazz band will begin after-school rehearsal next Tuesday. Be on the look out for permission slips! Rehearsals for Jazz band will be after school on Tuesdays and before school on Thursdays. More information will be given soon!

Hello!!!

Welcome back to school! We will begin the school year with band and orchestra recruitment night! That will take place on Tuesday, July 19th from 4pm-7pm. The recruitment night is for 5th and 6th grade students who are interested in joining band or orchestra.

Lessons begin this week! Please see your teachers for your lesson dates and times. The common period rehearsal schedule has slightly changed this year. Intermediate Orchestra will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the Concert Orchestra will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please make note of this change.

We look forward to seeing everyone at their lessons this week!!

Good Day!

As a reminder, the Spring Sing Along is scheduled on Tuesday, April 26th. Students are to arrive promptly at 6:00pm and meet in their homeroom classes. The concert will begin at 6:30pm and last approximately an hour.

Also, be sure to attend the ICS talent show that will take place on Friday, April 29th. All participants are to be in the gym at 5:30pm. Please note that the JAZZ BAND and PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE will be performing that night. Please make sure all students are ontime for the performance!

Please note that the ICS Solo and Ensemble Competition will take place next Saturday, February 19th from 8:00am-12:00pm. If you have not done so already, please turn in the permission slip and fee by Monday, February 14th.

After-school Beginning Band and Orchestra will be canceled on Wednesday, January 19th and MOVED to Thursday, January 20th.

Hello Everyone!

I am excited to begin winter quarter tomorrow!  REMINDER: Do not forget to the Maine West Festival Packet by Tuesday this week (1/11/11). All information about this event is listed in the previous post.

Solo and Ensemble Contest!

ICS will host solo and ensemble contest this year! The contest will take place on Saturday, February 19th from 8:00am-1:00pm. This is an incredible opportunity for students to practice on individual musical pieces and they will also receive one-on-one time with professional musicians! If you think your child will be interested in this beneficial event, please email me at lewisa@d62.org. The solo and ensemble sign-up sheet will be going home to all students as well.

WELCOME!!

This is the new blog for the music department at Iroquois Community School. You can find information about upcoming events here! The winter quarter is fast approaching and its important to know what to expect.

DES PLAINES MUSIC AREA FESTIVAL (1/19/2011)

The first performance opportunity is the Des Plaines Music Area Festival. All concert band students are expected to participate in this performance. The Des Plaines Music Area Festival is an all day event that will give students a wonderful opportunity to practice and perform with other middle school and high school students in Des Plaines. Attached, you will find all of the information that is needed about this event. Students will be transported to Maine West High School in the afternoon for rehearsal and the performance will take place at 6:30 pm located at the Maine West Auditorium. It is important to note that students are required to purchase a yellow Maine West t-shirt if they have not already purchased one this year (your child should have a t-shirt if they performed in the marching band event in the fall). Students can also purchase or bring dinner for the day of the performance. Fees for the t-shirts and optional dinner are due on Tuesday, January 11th.
