So you guys are going with Smartboards instead of Promethean? Is there a reason why one over the other?

[...] Seth Bowers’ session was called iPad in the Classroom. Here are links to his presentation slideshow and an extremely extensive list of apps for the classroom. Seth began by saying that while the iPad is a wonderful device for consumers he questioned whether it was a creative tool. He noted that one benefit is the speed it turns on- I must agree I have appreciated this more and more over the past few weeks. Seth plans on using the iPad in the classroom this fall and envisions stations in Lower School classrooms. Apparently apps can be loaded on more than one iPad so it should not be cost prohibitive. While I haven’t fully explored his list of apps yet, he highlighted a few of them. He liked Storykit because you can create your own versions of stories. History:maps of the world seems to be a wonderful resource. He finished with a demo on Korg-ielectribe that is on sale for $9.99 until the end of July. He also showed us a couple of humorous videos about the iPad: Grandma’s Ipad commercial and David Letterman. Seth recommended Steve Dembo’s blog. [...]

Nancy-

Yes - we had the students print out their own transcript in Google Chat. We just made it part of the assignment.

PS - sorry for the delayed response - I was in Barcelona for 9 days with virtually no connectivity!

I am trying to find out how to begin using IM in the classroom as you stated your spanish teacher did at one of your schools? I thought you said that the teacher could get the transript. did the kids have to print it out? Was this on Google talk?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I've been saying this for two years--since I moved in to this position, and my predecessors were saying it before me. I'm just going to link to this post, Seth, because it completely captures what I've been saying!

Stephanie
Tech would like all staff with laptops assigned to them to check in with their lmc specialist. We will give them instructions on how we will update your laptops for the new year.

Thanks for giving us a mail program that's going to combine other functions we work with daily. As a traveling teacher with a laptop, are you going to want all of these back for the summer to update, or is this something we can do on our own. Thanks again,

Thanks Cathy-

Email will have to be saved before July. I'm working with the Tech Department on the easiest way for individuals to do this. I will post those soon.

The district webmaster is going to forward this post to the district staff.

I'm so excited that we're moving to a more current, reliable system.

How will we be informing everyone about the issue of saving their own d62.org emails? Will this have to happen before July?
