Olympics

The Winter Olympics are coming! They will run from February 12-28.
The CHIP students have been researching the Olympics, and here’s some cool trivia for you:
1. The old-time skis were longer and more like snowshoes.
2. Hockey players didn’t use helmets in the old days of the Olympics.
3. A lot of people tried to prevent the Winter Olympics from happening separately, including officials. In 1924, France held the first Winter Olympics.
4. The Olympic flag has stayed the same since 1920.
5. Skiers wear tight clothing to stay warm and help with their time.
6. The founder of the modern Olympics was Pierre de Coubertin.
7. The first Olympics was in Athens in 1896.
8. Figure skating was a summer Olympic game until 1924.
9. There was an attack in the 1972 Olympics.
10. Bobsleds use a track called the bobrun.
11. Skiing used to be a form of transportation before it was an Olympic sport.
12. Yao Ming was on the Chinese team in the Olympics in 2000.
13. Only 12 countries were represented in the first Olympics in Athens.
14. Wilma Rudolph was a famous track star in the Olympics.
15. Fewer countries send teams to the Winter Olympics than the Summer Olympics.
16. Venus and Serena Williams were both in the 2000 Olympics.
